Animatic

This is our animatic, the images have been taken out of the second story bored. We have also added in images that have been created by Ryan in photoshop, this has allowed us to get a more accurate impression of the music video.
The animatic has been put together using the acoustic version of the track.

Treatment Mod

Scene 1 – Verse 1
The opening sequence of the music video is of the camera focused on letters on the floor. The camera slowly pans up and around to reveal the lead vocalist, whom is laying in a pile of love letters. whilst he is singing to the pre recorded backing track.
Scene 2 - Chorus 1
We now cut to a shot of the band on stage but only the lead vocalist is visible, the other members are blacked out, in the dark. We would also have letters from the initial scene falling on the band members. Finally we would create this scene using eclectic shots such as dolly shots, pans, jib shots etc.
Scene 3 - Chorus 1
A shot from the outside looking through a window at a/the girl. We now have a reverse of the previous shot where we see the girls back and the lead singer outside singing. The singer would then fade away to the lyrics "memories that are clear to fade"
Scene 4 - Verse 2
We then see her leading him by the hand into the woods, as she does so his hand slips from hers and they become separated. A camera shot shows their hands moving apart and so the distance between increasing. This then goes to a shot of the lead singer running around in various directions in an attempt to find her. We would have camera shots of him running towards the camera and high angle shots to give the feeling of being lost.
Scene 5 - Chorus 2
In this scene there will be a collection of shots of the whole band performing. We are also hoping to get in an audience to give more of a feel of a live performance. Another idea, we would like to record the singers at twice the speed therefore allowing us to slow the video down as professional videos do, this makes it look much more fluent.
Scene 6 – Verse 3 + Chorus 3
Here we will show our vocalist sitting on a sofa watching tv when the band burst in and start performing the chorus. The camera will then cut back to the live performance and end.
This was our preliminary idea on how it should end, a new ending has been implemented.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment Type-up;
1 Are the technical crew competent? The minimal amount of "technical crew" needed are well aware of the also minima risks involved. They are used to the equipment and are able to perform their said tasks(s)
2 Falls of men and equipment? Staff have no requirements of being at heights for equipment or other reasons.
3 Temporary structures? There are no temporary structures that may need to be safe and motion of said structures is also avoided.
4 Any electrical equipment? The electrical equipment used is correct for the purposes and had been previously installed knowingly safely.
5 Manual handling? The only needed handling would be of the camera's and none of the "crew" would struggle with that.
6 Tripping hazards? The cables and wires are the highest risk of tripping though with only having few people on set then the risk should be minimized. Cables in good condition.
7 Vehicles in the studio? There is no current or known need for vehicular aid within our work.
8 Special effects/Pyrotechnics/Lasers/Strobes? We may, possibly be endeavoring to use strobes however the rest of the options seem hugely unlikely.
9 Children on site? He will be supervised by the "crew"10 Stunts/ Novelty construction? Erm, we kinda don't need any stunts within our production.
11 Weapons/ Firearms/ Crossbows? We are strongly dismissed from the use of any of these items.
12 Practical Fires/ Cookers (Butane/ Propane?)? Also an unneeded and overzealous application for an A2 media piece of work.
13 Smoke generators? We may have a smoke machine depending on weather or not we are allowed it within the studio area.
14 Controlled substances? There is a very minimal set-up requirement, we seem to be safe.
15 Water? Not within our production.
16 Glass? The glass in in the form of a window. And so the safety element is high already.
17 Confrontational subject matter? The topic is broad and speaks to all and so is not confrontational at all.
18 Animals? No!
19 Audience require extra super vision? They will be around 17+ and so will be able to be responsible for their selves.
20 Wheelchairs? nope
21 Health conditions? no
22 Smoking? possibly?

Treatment, first draft

Scene 1 – Verse 1 The opening sequence of the music video is of the camera focused on letters on the floor, the camera slowly panning up and around to reveal the lead vocalist laying in a pile of love letters from a relationship on his bedroom floor whilst him singing to the pre recorded backing track which will be played whilst recording. Scene 2 - Chorus 1 We now cut to a shot of the band on stage but only the lead vocalist is visible, the other members are blacked out, in the dark. We would also have letters from the initial scene falling on the band members. Finally we would create this scene using eclectic shots such as dolly shots, pans, jib shots etc. Scene 3 - Chorus 1 A shot from the outside, looking through a window at a/the girl. We now have a reverse of the previous shot where we see the girls back and the lead singer outside singing. The singer would then fade away to the lyrics "memories that are clear to fade" Scene 4 - Verse 2 We then see her leading him into the woods as he goes running after her, as he does he loses her hand and they get separated. With a camera shot of there hands moving further and further away, this then goes to a shot of the lead singer running four different ways to find the person he’s just lost. We would have camera shots of him running up to the camera and high angle shots to give the feeling of being lost. Scene 5 - Chorus 2 In this scene we will be a collection of shots of he whole band performing. We are also hoping to get in an audience to give more of a feel of a live performance. Another idea we would like to record the singers at twice the speed therefore allowing us to slow the video down as professional videos do. Scene 6 – Verse 3 + Chorus 3 Here we will show our vocalist sitting on a sofa watching tv when the band burst in an start playing for the chorus. The camera will then cut back to the live performance and end.

Diary of production

We are currently preproduction on our music video. We seem to be going very well as for we are ahead of the scheduled lessons. Today we are meant to be doing a story board, though we completed that at least a week ago. So we are instead scanning the storyboards onto our computer [Joel]. [Kyle] Well Kyle is currently starting on the essential risk assessment. [Tom] Tom who will soon be leaving us is editing the story board after noticing he has missed a slide or two, so he will be finished shortly. [Ryan] (Currently not in lesson) Ryan joined recently and will take the place of Tom. He is currently in work with the location shots that Joel and I took last lesson.

Overview of entirety;
Curtis: I have so far worked closely with Joel in scripting the story and deciding on what the music video will actually be like. Also we (Joel and I) have taken shots of the external location. Joel and I are generally working pertaining to the story, we try to fit story and song, and work out ways to circumvent any problems. We also both did the treatment many lessons ago.
Joel: Work previously mentioned, due to him working closely with me. He also came up with many good ideas that will be implicated later in the filming and editing.
Kyle: Kyle is a member of the band that we are doing the song from. He also had many good ideas for the music video and the direction that it is to follow. He also aided in fitting the lyrics with the video. Kyle also is writing the risk assessment.
Tom: Tom has redone the story boards in neat for us and is still doing work even though he knows he won't be coming back to this collage. Tom has also just made a funny video to boost morale.
Ryan: The preliminarily mentioned new member of our group, has yet to do much work due to only recently joining, though I am sure he will create some highly important work soon to come.

--------------------------
Pt.2
Currently we are now back after the holiday. This is our first lesson on the blog and such. I shall give you a tattle of an insight of what we are doing.
Joel is bringing up an important point, he says that we should have separate jobs during the filming, I am sure that in weeks to come this idea will materialize. Joel is also doing the shooting schedule.
Ryan is planning out his digipack. This is his first piece of work, and between you and I, it does not seem promising.
Kyle is also doing his digipack and he says it is going well, I think he is trying to concentrate :P
Curtis, AkA, me, well I am doing this because there seems to be no work going at the moment. I deem this more important as for it gives a useful insight into how the group is working and what it is people are doing. I shall try to keep this up as many lessons as possible, however other work may get in the way on some days.
--------------------------------
Pt.3
Kyle has been progressing further on his digipack. It seems like a very technical way to create one, complicated.
Curtis, me, i have also been doing my digipack, I have currently down the front cover and am waiting for the logo to be posted to me so I can do the disk tray.
Ryan, Joel. researching into the trial and testings for the video to make it look better. No body is entirely sure what they are doing tbf.
--------------------------------
Pt.4
Today Joel and Ryan have gone to do a voice over for our recce shots. They are attempting to find a suitable location that they can record in.
Kyle will be assessing his digipack for continuity reasons. This vital assessment should give him a lucid vision as for what to do next to do to make it easier later.
I will as always update this and rename it to what you now see it as. I shall also continue my digipack and possibly have it neon-finished?
--------------------------------
Pt.5
Joel and Ryan are continuing their work from yesterday and I am sitting to give any aid if necessary.
I am also going to palpably add to this diary and possibly complete my digipak? I have some problems with conceptualizing it, but I should overcome these within a brief period of time.
Kyle is unable to be in this lesson due to seminal, university pertinent reasons.
---------------------------------
Pt.6
Today we have realized for certain that Kyle will be leaving the group and media as a whole. He will still however help out with the music video. His departure seems like a big shock to many people, however I don't see it as a vast set back.
Joel is currently assembling the finishing touches to the location "stuff". This is his third lesson on it and so should be done very soon. Ryan is aiding his haste.
I am having now to overview what it is that Ryan is doing and finish my much delayed digipak. I currently have but one more pertinent image to sleuth and implicate.
We are all now currently attempting to assemble a semblance of a plan B. I am starting by looking for songs that suit the lyrical narrative of our original song. Here are the songs I am considering; Rammstein - Amour, Foo Fighters - Best of you, Stone Sour - Say you'll haunt me, Nirvana - Breed, Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars, Wolfmother - Colossal, Machine Head - Crushing around you, Disturbed - Crucified, Machine Head - deafening silence, Stone Sour - Digital (did you tell), Nirvana - Drain you, Newton Faulkner - Dream catch me, Rammstein - Engel, REM - everybody hurts, White stripes - fell in love with a girl, The Subways - Girls & boys, Stone Sour - Hesitate, The Beatles - im looking through you,
---------------------------------
Pt. 7
More discussion is continuing on our plan B. Due to Kyle being the band member this may cause some problems as to what we are to do about the entire project. However I personally don't think it will be a big problem, though the other two members are not so confident. Personally due to the large number of subsequent songs that I have mentioned there is no problem because they have a similar story line.
We had decided to do a digipak each however after seeing how professional Joel's looks Ryan is deciding to "join" him, or better put, sponging off of him. So that is what Ryan and Joel are doing this lesson.
I will be single handedly sorting out a proficient plan B and sorting my own digipak.
---------------------------------
Pt.8
Today after arriving late I will make more headway on my digipak. Currently the front cover seems to be looking very good indeed, if I do say so myself. Ryan is doing work on his own separate digipak! Joel has come across problems due to the contingency plan. He finds that the semblance of a plan is causing him some difficulties.
I have also ran into a brick wall. However this is because I cannot find where my front cover is saved. Photoshop wont let me open recent o anything, and so for now I am lost as for what to do about it? This slight set back wont last long however.
---------------------------------
Pt.9
Today we are making some head way on the audience feedback side of things. We are coming up with good ways to get feedback and information about our target audience. We have a much larger problem with this area because we are using an unknown band. So we cant just go on youtube or a band site to get information about the audience. We have decided to gather a collection of people to listen to the song and give feedback is that style of open forum. This will encourage people to be more open and honest.
---------------------------------
Pt.10
I have not added to this due to being swamped with work, currently the risk assessment. Next lesson I will be doing a voice over on some more of the location shots that were previously unavailable. [Joel] Is trying to get the animatic from one of the computers and beginning preliminary work on the location shots. [Ryan] Is redoing the story board for depth, because the other, our initial one, is a tattle to ambiguous.
----------------------------------
Pt.11
Today I should be able to finish the speaking segment of the locations post. Due to technical issues (Joel not pressing 'record') we did not finish it on the lesson that we started it on. We are just making sure that the speeches make sense etc.
----------------------------------
Pt.12
In this lesson I have just found that the parts in which I spoke have been redone because they were "too long" Though I personally think that with some cuts it would have been fine. Maybe laziness on his behalf?
Ryan is currently doing the animatic, and that seems to be the only thing that can be done? because until that is finished. Though Joel has found a little thing to do, he is uploading the latest locations video to youtube, if it loads that is.
I will have a look at the old shooting schedule and possibly modify it if needed.

Plan for Digipak (Curtis)

I will start this with some research into existing digipaks and some schizophrenic discourse. I will discuss the pro's and con's of different existing digipaks.

My first case study is from Seth Lakeman - Freedom Fields.
When opened there are three front and three back covers. I feel this would imply a lot of work for just one person to attempt and so initially is not a positive response from me. However I do like how there is a sleeve and a plastic casing to hold the CD's. I would personally go for the plastic tray. There is also a little notch opening for a booklet, I h
owever felt that this is a bit fiddly and so would find a better way to have a booklet.

Bellowhead - Burlesque
This has but only four sides and one of which is an inbuilt booklet. Both of these sound like good ideas and I shall most certainly use it in some way. The reason it is good is because it makes the digipak value for money. Ultimately that is the main attraction to digipaks.

I shall make the inbuilt booklet be a book containing the song lyrics and other songs that the buyer may also like. This is an idea usually seen on websites where they suggest to you other songs you may like. I feel it could also work excellently at this juncture.
